Palermo Bakery was honored to be a part of the Hetrick-Martin Institute's Emery Awards, held at Cipriani Wall Street on November 6th, 2019. The HMI 2019 Emery Awards honors individuals and organizations that exemplify HMI’s mission of providing a safe and supportive environment for LGBTQIA+ young people. This year’s honorees included actor Nico Tortorella for speaking out to help break down stereotypes and educate in the process, and DC, for raising community visibility through their comics and films featuring LGBTQ characters and themes.

Not only did Palermo Bakery offer a cake for the Online Auction, priced at a $275 value, but they also created a custom cake for the event itself!

A stylish black cake to match the black-tie affair, the cake was a celebration of the Hetrick-Martin Institute's amazing history. The 4-tier cake was adorned with hand-sculpted ornaments of the programs and services that HMI offers, photos of their colorful 40-year history, and names of different influential members of the HMI history, including the founders themselves, Dr. Emery Hetrick and Dr. Damien Martin.

Though it was tough to design a cake as diverse as the HMI themselves, we were certainly up to the challenge! Our heartfelt congratulations go out to everyone at the Hetrick-Martin Institute on their 40 year anniversary, and here's to 40 more!
